Breakdown of general system expenditure
Medical Devices registered on the List of Products and Services (LPP) represent an expenditure of 5.5 billion Euro for the Health Insurance system (all categories), of which 4.4 billion for the General System (including local provident sections).
The LPP coding enables the structure of medical consumption to be described more precisely.
Historically, the LPP nomenclature is split into 4 Sections which in turn are divided into chapters and sub-chapters. |

Section I represents 2,423 Million Euro or about 55 % of total expenditure. This section is devoted mainly to home healthcare (e.g.: beds, wheelchairs, perfusion pumps, dressings, syringes, etc)
Section II represents 701 Million Euro or about 16 % of total expenditure. This section covers Orthoses (cervical collars, etc) and external Prostheses (hearing aids, etc)
Section III represents 1,165 Million Euro or about 16 % of total expenditure. This section includes all implantable devices essentially invoiced in addition to care given in establishments (hip prostheses, pacemakers, etc)
Section IV represents 98 Million Euro or about 2 % of total expenditure. This section is devoted to the purchase, hire and repair of wheelchairs. |
